School Merit Awards System
Our Merit Award System has had a facelift! After careful consideration with our staff, we have created a new step-by-step awards system for students to be able to progress through the awards scheme without being restricted by a timeframe.
Weekly class awards will combine our 5 Keys to Success (Resilience, Confidence, Getting Along, Organisation and Persistence) which are a part of the You Can Do It! Program that we at Copmanhurst Public School have been using since 2017.
These weekly awards will be presented at the weekly assembly on a Thursday with class teachers encouraged to use their discretion and generally award between three and five awards per week.
Once a student has received five (of any colour) awards, they are asked to return them to school to their class teacher. The student will then be eligible for the PRINCIPAL’S AWARD. The original five awards will be returned to the student along with their certificate.
After the student has received their principal’s award, they then continue to collect their classroom awards. When they reach a further five (of any colour) awards they can then return the current five to their classroom teacher. They will then be eligible for the BRONZE AWARD and the BRONZE school badge.
Each five new awards (of any colour) will see them eligible for the progression from BRONZE to SILVER to GOLD. Each with a new corresponding school badge.
Once GOLD level has been attained, the student will continue to receive classroom awards. When there are a further 10 awards (of any colour) collected, they are asked to return them to school to their classroom teacher. This will see them eligible for the SCHOOL HONOUR AWARD. This will be awarded with a new GOLD BAR for each time they receive it.
The badges should be worn proudly by the students every day and be a representation of their dedication to our school values and vision to be a supportive school community working in unity to strengthen student success.
